Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition where there is abnormal and excessive sweating/perspiration taking place in an individual. People with this condition produce large volumes of sweat which means that hands, feet, armpits or chest may be constantly damp. This can make normal activities difficult to carry out and can cause embarrassment in everyday life.

Signs and symptoms of excessive sweating may include:

  • Clammy or wet palms of the hands

  • Clammy or wet soles of the feet

  • Frequent sweating

  • Sweating that soaks through your clothing

The best treatment for hyperhidrosis is injections of Botulinum Toxin A. Also used in the prevention of wrinkles. This can be used for treating excessive sweating of the underarms but can also be used on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.

The treatment includes small superficial doses into the skin on the area affected. It blocks the actions of the nerve that supply the glands producing sweat, this prevents the glands from producing sweat. This treatment lasts up to nine months but will wear off eventually.

Results are usually noticed 4-5 days after receiving the treatment.
